About the William Young Swimming School

William Young is an experienced swimming coach with a full range of qualifications relating to Health and Fitness.

He is a fully qualified teacher, affiliated to the Institute of Swimming, FIOS, MIOS (TD) and also the Scottish Teachers Association (STA) and all tuition is designed and implemented according to the STA guidelines.

William offers swimming lessons in the Glasgow area to all levels – adults and children – at beginner, improver and developer levels. He is also experienced in coaching swim teams. He previously was Assistant Swimming Development Officer with West Dunbartonshire Council and so has extensive experience of designing swimming classes for groups and coaching individuals. He has additional qualifications relating to disabilities and special needs including working with deaf children and adults at all levels – he holds the NDCS Deaf Friendly Swimming Certificate.

William holds the current Disclosure Scotland Certificate and also holds the Child Protection Workshop Certificate

Rehabilitation through swimming

Rehabilitation through Swimming / Aqua Exercise

He delivers rehabilitation classes and this has proven to be beneficial in aiding recovery and easing mobility. It involves developing individual programmes focusing on increasing fitness levels including flexibility, cardiovascular health, strength and stamina. He has additional qualifications relating to disabilities and special needs including sight impairment and deafness.

Some examples would include: Working with clients after hip and knee replacements, with those who have been advised by medical practitioners to build up specific muscle groups to support skeletal system, stroke and by-pass patients, people with cerebal palsy and other health issues or conditions.

Work can be undertaken in conjunction with other health professionals including physiotherapists and occupational therapists, he designs programmes for clients using teaching methods and techniques to ensure minimum shock absorption and maximum flexibility.
